Artist statement

As a practicing artist, the way in which I work has been both experimental and digressed based on subject matter that I am concerned with. I am primarily a painter however, I feel that painting is not limited to just multi disciplinary in nature and not constrained by any one medium. My Final Year Project was a combination of installation, sculpture, painting and typography.  I specialised in painting for three years and during that  specification I developed an understanding that the language of painting did not have any limits. The course nor concept of painting itself was limited to a brush, substance and surface. Considering this, I wanted to incorporate multi-disciplinary elements in my final year project in fourth year. The ongoing project allowed me to organically conclude natural outcomes on the ideologies of biomorphism and the human experience of abnormal forms. As follows is a statement I composed to summaries the concepts of my final year project:

Through a collaboration of imagery and sculpture, this work explores the creation and evolution of abstract form and its relationship with the viewer. As viewers, we are conditioned to certain expectations regarding ‘form’. Being constrained by the natural desire for familiarity, we restrict the space that we give to our imaginations and comfort zones. By creating physical forms and presenting them in an installation scenario, I am directing a contemporary narrative between the viewer and the work.'
